I suppose the best way to start my first blog is to introduce myself. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of me shouting at you in the classes already, my name is David, and I'm the new coach here at Fullbody Workhouse’s new training facility here in Roscommon. Over the coming months we hope to use this blog to interact with our clients and provide advice and recommendations on training and nutrition and also to discuss new training ideas that arise within the industry.
So firstly, I’ll get the major issue out of the way, the rumours are true, I’m a proud Leitrim man. However, unless Leitrim take a dramatic rise in the national league or the Rossies plummet we shouldn't have too many disagreements.
My first real interest in sport dates back to my early childhood, when I would listen to games on the radio with my grandfather who was a huge kerry supporter. It was this early exposure to the sport that developed my interest and I have represented my local club Carrigallen at underage and now at senior level. It was while helping with the local U16 team that I got my first taste of coaching and from that my career has taken off.
During my time completing my BSc in Sports Strength and Conditioning in LIT, I have been lucky enough to be exposed to every side of the fitness industry. I have been privileged to work with a number of GAA teams including Leitrim and Longford county teams and also top club teams within these counties. I have also had the opportunity to work closely with League of Ireland and english Championship soccer players and League of Ireland referees in a one-to-one basis.
It is with this background and knowledge that I look forward to working closely with and helping every single one of you on your fitness journey.
I hope to get a chance to meet you all over the next few weeks and don’t be afraid to approach me with any questions or queries you may have. On a side note, those of you approaching with fresh coffee will get first preference.
Dave
